Drop #019
Echoes in the Abyss
In this composition, the dominant roar of voices reverberates from the cavernous depths of contention, a cacophony that sets the stage for the energy that follows. Flickers of a scoreboard pulse under bright stadium lights, capturing fleeting moments of triumph and despair, while a lone microphone dangles, heavy with unspoken words, echoing the weight of finality. Together, these threads intertwine in a frenetic dance, each contributing its essence to a layered experience that resists simplistic interpretation.
Perception
Five measurements of the day's attention — they choose the palette, the medium, and how far the work may drift.
The making
The image and the line are one reading of the day — not a caption of the news, a composition of it.
Everything moved at once. The marks came out fast.
The measurements chose gouache on a Smog ground, framed as layers.
These are the signals that went into the work:
- Jack Smith defends handling of Trump probes at heated Senate hearing — the roar of voices echoing in a cavernous room
- the day's games — the scoreboard flickers under the stadium lights
- john kruk — a microphone left hanging after the last pitch
Everything else on the map was heard and passed over.
