Drop #024

Fragmented Presence

Today’s piece draws from the current landscape, weaving together the essence of Angela Paxton, a figure whose political narrative is reduced to mere inventory, punctuated by the detached observation of the day's games, echoing a polite distance. As an undercurrent, the somber echoes of Christa Pike’s situation whisper through the work, reminding us of the weighty silence that accompanies unresolved destinies. The frenetic energy of ink-wash captures the chaotic interplay of these threads, resulting in a composition that invites reflection without imposing judgment.

The making

The image and the line are one reading of the day — not a caption of the news, a composition of it.

Everything moved at once. The marks came out fast.

The measurements chose ink wash on a Smog ground, framed as thirds.

These are the signals that went into the work:

  1. angela paxton — angela paxton, reduced to inventory
  2. the day's games — the day's games, viewed from a polite distance
  3. Christa Pike's lawyer says she has not regained consciousness since her failed Tennessee execution — what Christa Pike's lawyer says she has not regained consciousness since her failed Tennessee execution sounds like through a wall

Everything else on the map was heard and passed over.
